Une voix parmi tant d’autres

Dear Ethan …

Dear Ethan,

After reading your post “Democrats invent the remix, only three years after the Tunisians“, here is my comments :

I do confirm that the remix was first published on February 29th 2004.

In fact, I always wanted to do something with the old ad that was originally made for the 1984 Macintosh announcement. But it was in low resolution and bad quality. So I couldn’t do the remix neither could throw the file. Finally, I kept it for years on my desktop until I literally jumped on the remastered one made for the 20th anniversary. And it was perfect because it fallen for the new Tunisian presidential campaign. And few days later, the remix was published on Tunezine.com

I liked very much your post and I do share most of it. And probably at nawaat.org, yezzi.org, Fikra we are not ashamed of the work we’ve done in that way since few years now. And to be honest, I admit I was moved by what you’ve written. So thank you for what you’re doing to help things getting any better.

Still, I want to point out just one more thing :

In your post you’ve written :

The final image isn’t text declaring that 1984 or 2008 will differ from “1984″, but the image of a Tunisian girl opening her eyes, as if Ben Ali’s twenty year rule was a bad dream she was waking from.

I agree whith that part of the message I wanted to deliver. But there is something else. The girl in the end of my remix could be indeed a Tunisian girl. Especially when I named the remix “Dans la tête d’Aziza …” (in Aziza’s mind…”). And this name is indeed frequently used in Tunisia. In addition, Aziza with her lovely face looks like also a Tunisian girl.

Actually, that lovely face was, is my mind, more than a Tunisian girl. It symbolises something that we should all have in our soul where ever we are born.

What do I mean ?

Please have a look to this other commercial (please till the end). And you will understand what I meant 3 years ago when I added Aziza’s face in the remix (and no matter if this other commercial comes from the same corporation, I can’t help it : ) ).

Sincerely,
Astrubal, April 12th, 2007

  2. […] This is what Ethan loves and lives for: http://astrubal.nawaat.org/2007/04/12/dear-ethan/ A blogger activist, someone Ethan has never met or knew about, wrote a response to Ethan but didn’t email Ethan or contact Ethan directly; rather, the writer blogged to him in an entry that started “Dear Ethan” for him to find in a trackback. In addition, the blogger is from Tunisia. “English is probably his third of forth language and it’s how he wrote.” Ethan said he loves what this way of communicating has done. Reading the post, caused Ethan to change slide content for his talk on 4/13/07. […]
