Ethan Zuckerman about Tunisian cyberactivism
At The Watson Institute For International Studies
In the wake of a brilliant conference made by Ethan Zuckerman, Sami has posted an exciting article (in Arabic) about the Tunisian Cyber-Activism.
Back to April 2007, Ethan Zuckerman has held a conference at the Watson Institute For International Studies. In his Talk “Listening Widely (Wisely?) - International News and the Rise of Citizen Media“, Ethan analysed the emergence of what he calls the “Citizen Media” and the way this process is growing up. Among other things, the cofounder of Global Voices described how cyberspace tools are transforming passive citizens towards information into bloggers whose shape (by several technics) the information and its course. During his talk, Ethan Zuckerman refers to interesting case studies including those of Tunisian bloggers. And no need to hide it, I was really very touched by Ethan’s appreciation of the work we are doing and the way he talked about the Apple 1984 remix and the “403 Checker“.

Relying on Ethan’s Tunisian case study, Sami gives his vision of the Tunisian cyber-activism and how Tunisian bloggers use the “Read/Write” and MushUp technics (like the excellent peace of art of the “Tunisian Prison Map” described by Ethan.
And more specifically about Tunisian bloggers involvement for citizen’s rights, Sami wrote:
تعرف إيثان و غيره من الأكاديميين على ما أسميه بالمدرسة التونسية للنشاط الإفتراضي من خلال العمل النوعي الذي يقوم به فريق من المدونين التونسيين الذي أفتخر بالإنتماء إليه، حمله على التعريف بمبادراتنا في الكثير من المحافل العلمية و الإعلامية حيث لقي هذا العمل اهتماما لم نشهده داخل الإطار التونسي الذي، للأسف، لا يزال يحبذ تجنب دراسة هذه الظاهرة بشكل موضوعي و علمي بعيدا عن المزايدات السياسوية و الحسابات الشخصية لهذ الطرف أو ذاك. بل قد يستهجن بعض المدونين التونسيين من استعمالي لكلمة ” مدونين” في العنوان و خلال هذه التدوينة. كيف لا و قد تعود البعض، الذي لا يتجاوز عددهم أصابع اليد الواحدة، من ممارسي رياضة التكلم باسم المدونة التونسية و الدفاع عنها، على سلب صفة المدونين عنا و الإكتفاء بنعتنا ب “المعارضين” (Dissidents) المغتربين وكأن الحديث عن حقوقنا الأساسية إنتماء سياسي، و كأن الإغتراب أو المنفي نزهة سياحية. بل أنني من مناصري التعريف الذي قدمه علاء عبد الفتاح لماهية المدون […]
